Enhanced Organization by Period

The Organization by Period feature has been enhanced to include a separate calculation status and separate approval status for primary and shared entities, and enhancements for the locking of ownership data.

When you create an application, if you enable the Ownership Management feature, you can also enable Enhanced Organization by Period, or enable it for an existing application if Ownership Management is already enabled. If you do not enable Enhanced Organization by Period, there is no impact to your existing application. However, if Ownership Management is enabled, then enabling Enhanced Organization by Period is recommended.

This enhancement is only for Dense/Sparse optimized (DSO) applications.

Changes for Enhanced Organization by Period include:

  • New behavior of Inactive Consolidation Method. The default range settings for the Inactive method have been changed to apply to 0% Ownership.

  • Translation of the children of the Entity Total Member in the Consolidation dimension into Parent Currency for any shared instance of the entity.

  • Introduction of a new Node status. The existing Calculation Status has been split into Calc Status and Node Status to be able to reflect a different status for data that is common across all instances of a shared entity, and data that is specific to each individual instance.
  • Approval Process changes for shared entities where each instance of a shared entity will have its own Approval Unit instead of sharing a single Approval Unit for all instances
  • Locking of Ownership Data. The entities on Ownership screen can be locked and unlocked independently of approval unit locking. However, there is dependency where Entity on Ownership screen should be locked before locking of the approval unit. Ownership data for an entity cannot be unlocked unless the approval unit is also unlocked.
  • A new configuration task called Prior Period Data Updates that updates and populates Parent Currency/Entity Total data as a result of the addition of new instances of shared entities
  • A new configuration task called Locking and Unlocking Status Update that updates the lock status in Ownership data based on the data lock status in the Approvals process
  • New calculation status accounts: FCCS_CSTATUS that stores the values used for Common data and FCCS_NSTATUS that stores the values for Node data
  • The ProportionalizeTopEntityMembers Substitution Variable is not applicable for applications with Enhanced Organization by Period enabled. 
  • Any customized Data Status form (with the same name) will be renamed Data Status_Customized and placed in the root directory.  A new Data Status form will be seeded when Enhanced Org by Period is Enabled.
  • For existing applications, if Ownership Management is not enabled, then Ownership Management must be enabled and validated prior to enabling Enhanced Org by Period.

Business Benefit: The Organization by Period enhancements in Ownership Management provide more flexibility for organizational structures to be adjusted over different periods, and allow the addition of new instances of shared entities without requiring locked data to be unlocked and reconsolidated.
