Improved Accessibility Support in Report Packages
Report packages now better support descriptive alternative text for tables, charts, graphs, and images in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint doclets, including doclets authored using Oracle Smart View for Office. Previously, the service could overwrite authors’ alternative text with information required for report package development. The service now retains authors’ descriptions, appends the required information during development, and removes it only when the report package is published.
For content embedded from Microsoft Excel and Report reference doclets, authors can enable alternative text and choose the available content name, description, or custom text. Alternative text is retained in published native and PDF outputs to support users who use screen readers.
Business Benefit: Authors can provide and retain meaningful descriptions of visual report content, helping people who use screen readers understand the published report package.
Steps to enable and configure
Enter descriptive alternative text on objects in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint doclets when authoring with Smart View. For system-created embedded content, enable the Alt Text option on the available content definition and then select Name, Description, or Custom.
To use this feature in Smart View, install the 26.11 Narrative Reporting extension. See Updated Narrative Reporting Extension for Smart View.
