Payroll Cost Distribution to Projects Using Payroll Costing Configuration
Distribute payroll costs to projects using payroll costing configuration values. Leveraging the results of the payroll costing business rules allows for seamless distribution to the requisite projects. For example, location is defined in the payroll costing segments depending on the persons work location. A precedence based set of rules, per location can be configured to distribute each payroll cost to the appropriate project and grant, if applicable. This new labor schedule type continues the expansion of labor cost distribution capabilities in projects, providing a cost based distribution option, in addition to the existing person assignment methods.
Once your business is ready to consume this powerful and efficient new labor schedule type, there are just a few steps that that you need to take:
- Define payroll costing configuration labor schedules and related distribution rules.
- Define the pay elements that you want to use to distribute payroll costs to projects.
- Run payroll with optimal efficiency and compliance.
- Account the payroll costs.
- Schedule the Import Payroll Costs process to distribute the payroll as defined.
This new labor schedule is applied after checking if the associated person and assignment have any applicable assignment labor schedules.

Tips And Considerations
- The Import Payroll Costs process start and end date parameters use the processed date of the payroll cost to determine whether it should be imported.
- Retroactive payroll costs will inherit the process date of their associated payroll and will have a retroactive pay period that will be used to derive the expenditure item date when distributing via labor schedules.
- Adjusting a payroll cost in Payroll will not create a new process date.
- The Start Date parameter in the Import Payroll Costs process should be set based on your business rules that determine how far in the past adjustments can be made in Payroll.
