Harvard Business Publishing Content Provider

You can now import Harvard Business Publishing learning content to Oracle Learning as self-paced learning. The content you can import depends on your Harvard Business Publishing subscription plan and the content accessible to you on their platform. If you have the license, the integration will also sync Harvard Manage Mentor courses.

Learner progression and completion is tracked in Oracle Learning whether it's launched from Harvard Business Publishing or from Oracle Learning. Progress data is sent by Harvard Business Publishing to Oracle Learning using the xAPI protocol for sharing learning experience data. So you have a single learning transcript for your learners in Oracle Learning that includes Harvard Business Publishing content, regardless of where they launch.

Learners can easily find Harvard Business Publishing content in your Oracle Learning catalog by filtering with publisher or author information that they send to Oracle Learning.

This enhancement extends the external content that you can leverage in Oracle Learning and provides your learners with a single learning catalog for all their training needs.

Steps to Enable

Prerequisites

Enable the Redwood Self-Paced Learning Management feature (ideally we can link this Add the link here and I'll include it in the RCB WN)

Setup is required in both Oracle Learning, and Harvard Business Publishing as follows:

Provider setup in Oracle Learning

  1. Create a job role that includes the Learning Content Provider duty role. The role lets this account use the necessary Oracle APIs to receive content and completions from Harvard Business Publishing. Use the Tools > Security Console, Roles tab.
  2. Create a user account you will provide to Harvard Business Publishing so they can authenticate to your instance and send their content and learner progression
    1. On the Tools > Security Console > Users tab, click Add User Account.
    2. On the Add User Account page, set Associated Person Type to None.
    3. Enter the appropriate user details so you can identify the account.  Give the account a meaningful user name, such as user.harvardbusiness.
    4. Add the job role you created in step 1.
  3. Enable Harvard Business Publishing external provider in Oracle Learning using the My Client Groups > Learning and Development > Configure External Providers task.
    1. On the Configure External Providers page, in the Harvard Business Publishing row, click Configure.
    2. On the Configure External Provider: Harvard Business Publishing page, enter the user account created in the previous step.
    3. Validate the configuration.
    4. Optionally modify the attribute mappings between certain Harvard Business Publishing attributes and Oracle Learning attributes you might have extended or customized.

Harvard Business Publishing

  1. Contact your Harvard Business Publishing account team and give them the user name created previously in Oracle Learning. The team uses the provided username, to give you this information:
    1. A public certificate so they can authenticate to the Oracle Learning APIs to send content and completion data.
    2. A trusted issuer name for their JWT token

Add Harvard Business Publishing's public certificate to Oracle to authenticate incoming requests from Harvard

Schedule background processes in Oracle Learning

Using the Tools > Scheduled Processes task, schedule these processes:

  • ESS job to run Bulk ingest to OSCS to make new content and updates from Harvard Business Publishing visible in Oracle Learning. Set the program name to OLC-REST and leave the other input fields empty.  We recommend a frequency of once per day.
  • Process learning experience statements to process any learner experience statements from Harvard Business Publishing that for some reason weren't processed immediately. We recommend a frequency of once per day.
  • Process Learning Catalog Item Deactivations and Deletions to deactivate content when the deactivation date set by Harvard Business Publishing arrives. We recommend a frequency of once per day.
