Request Partial Open Shifts with Manager Approvals

With partial open shift requests, workers now have the option to work flexible hours that better match their personal availability. Schedule managers can review these requests to ensure adequate shift coverage while maintaining operational efficiency.

Schedulers configure partial open shift requests at the schedule and shift levels.

  • Schedule level: When publishing or republishing a schedule, schedulers can allow partial claims for open shifts that require approval. The default each time a schedule is published is to not allow partial claims. This option overrides individual shift settings each time they publish the schedule. But schedulers can manually adjust individual shifts on the published schedule.

  • Shift level: When creating or editing an open shift that requires approval required, schedulers can allow partial shifts. The schedule-level option overrides the shift-level options set before the schedule is published. Any shift-level changes made in a published schedule apply.

For open shifts that allows partial requests, workers can claim the entire shift or just part of it. Their partial request needs to include either the shift start or end and have a duration of at least 1 hour. Workers can't request a partial shift from the middle of an open shift.

Approval Enhancements

Schedulers can view full and partial shift claims separately:

  • Full Claims are ordered by submission time.

  • Partial claims show remaining hours and are sorted by best coverage.

Here's what happens when they approve a partial shift:

  • The requested part of the shift is assigned to the requestor.

  • An open shift for remaining time is created in the schedule. This open shift inherits the details from the full shift and the new slot is set to 1.

  • Any remaining claims for the shift are automatically rejected if the quota becomes 0. If there's remaining quota, the other claims remain active.

Schedulers need to manually set up shift breaks for the new partial shifts. They'll get an message if the break details are missing.

These enhancements improves scheduling adaptability, enhances workforce engagement, and gives workers more control over their work-life balance.
