Import Skills from Lightcast Open Skills Library

You can now import skills from Lightcast, a third-party skills provider with a widely used, free skill taxonomy.

To use this feature, you need to configure Lightcast as an external provider using the Configure External Providers task on the My Client Groups > Profiles page. Through this configuration, you’re setting up a connection to Lightcast, which will import its skills into your Oracle Fusion environment.

Here are a few things to note while importing skills:

  • The skills are imported into a delivered managed catalog called the Lightcast Skills Library.
  • You can choose to import a Lightcast skill that’s a duplicate of an existing skill in one of your skill libraries, such as your custom skills catalog or the Oracle Dynamic Skills Seed Library. If you import it, the duplicate skill will be set as inactive.
  • The imported skills can be viewed from My Client Groups > Item Catalogs, under the Lightcast Skills Library.
  • The prerequisite for configuring the Lightcast provider is to have an account with them.

You can use this feature as an alternative or as a supplement to the Oracle Seeded Skills Library or your custom skills library.

Steps to Enable

Tips And Considerations

As a skills administrator, you can’t perform these tasks in the Lightcast Skills Library:

  • Manually add new skills, except through the import process.
  • Rename skills.
  • Change skill descriptions or their synonyms.

You can, however, manually set the skill to inactive. Subsequent imports from Lightcast will not overwrite this status.

If you are using Location Based Access Control, then you must enable the role assigned to the Lightcast login to use Public Access. Roles designated as Public Access bypass the global LBAC. For more details, see How can I make a role public?.
