Workload Import by Shift Enhancements

You can import shift-based baseline workloads and then time-based adjusted or actual workload data, and the consolidation process automatically consolidates these requirements based on their time and date attributes. When a time-based workload overlaps a shift-based workload, the consolidation process removes the overlapping part of the shift from the requirement. The schedule keeps the remaining, nonoverlapping shift and time workload requirement. For example, there's a 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM shift-based workload requirement when a time-based 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM workload is imported. The consolidation process creates these workload entries:

  • A time-based workload for the overlapping 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM period
  • A shift-based workload for the remaining 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM period

Workforce scheduling no longer uses the original shift-based 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM workload requirement to directly create and assign shifts. Each workload requirement is labeled to indicate whether it originated from a shift, a time, or a consolidated (WPST) source.

This logic ensures that staffing coverage is neither duplicated nor omitted, even in complex cases like these:

  • Shifts cross midnight
  • Baseline and actual workload types coexist for the same date and time

Other refinements ensure midnight crossings and nonoverlapping requirements are accurately processed and validated, with clear error messages prompting you in cases of unresolvable overlaps.

This enhancement improves the workload import and consolidation process by intelligently merging shift-based and time-based workload requirements. It ensures that overlapping time and shift entries are handled accurately, eliminating gaps or duplication in staffing coverage and optimizing schedule generation.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

You can't use both shift-based and time-based workload plans together for the Baseline workload type.
