2025-26 Award Year COD Updates

The system has been updated to send and receive COD files for the 25/26 award year which includes origination, disbursement, and other unsolicited COD file formats (i.e. MPN, EC files, etc.). 

  • The system will support the latest COD Common Record XML Schema Version 5.0c on or prior to Spring 2025 for COD origination requests and responses. The following updates have been made:
    • 5.0c Schema is used in namespace
    • Changed namespace to (File Line 2):

    • The following additional tag will to be included in any outbound COMRECIN / CRDLMYIN files and will also be able to be received in any inbound COMRECOP / CRDLMYOP files according to the COD 5.0c schema definition:
      • A new CIP type will contain the Program CIP Code tag and the corresponding program length/credential levels that are required per disbursement. The CIP tag will allow for a maximum of 3 occurrences per disbursement. Only one occurrence of CIP and corresponding  program length/credential levels will be required per disbursement, similar to how the Address line fields are defined. 
      • Added new CIP Tag and Type (File Line 761) for the 25/26 Award Year and forward

      • The new CIP Type Tag will enclose the following existing tags ((File Line 776-849) <xsd:complexType name="CIPType">)

      • The new CIP Type Tag is per disbursement within the <Disbursement> block. The tag will be =  <CIP Number="1">.

      • Award year's prior to 25/26 will not include the new CIP Type Tag
  • Other COD file formats are able to be received in the system according to the 5.0c schema:
    • Supports the file layout format for CRPN26OP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRSP26OP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRCS26OP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRECMYOP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRAC26OP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRAT26OP 
    • Supports the file layout format for PGLE26OP
    • Supports the file layout format for CRIB26OP
  • FA users are able to enable the award year based COD filed formats via the DOE File Management UI
  • The COD Origination Start Date will be set to 7/1/25 for the 25/26 Award Year and can be updated via configuration (COD_Origination_Disbursement_Start_Date_TIV_Grants_Loans within REGULATORY_DEADLINES) if desired
  • SAIG Message Class File (messagetb) file is updated with latest provided by ED on September 10, 2024

You will be able to originate and disburse Title IV funds via the COD system and be able to receive unsolicited file formats (i.e. MPN, EC files, etc.) which are used in packaging and disbursing. 

Steps to Enable

Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.

Offering: Student Financial Aid

  • Within your Regulatory Deadlines Configuration workbook, ensure your COD Origination Start Date aligns to when you would like to begin originating funds with COD.
  • Enable each Department of Education file format that can be received from FAFSA Processing System (FPS) that you want SFA to process. 
    • Ensure the DOE File Management General Permission is enabled
    • Navigate to the DOE File Management User Interface
      • Choose Award Year 2025-2026
      • Select the file names that you want Student Financial Aid to process
      • Add the date and time you wish to enable these files
  • Note, you will also need to load a valid 25/26 ISIR and SAFI for the student in order to package and award Title IV funds for the 25/26 Award Year prior to originating funds.
