Work Assignment Empty Distance Cost Between Shipments

A new resource Schedule Logic Configuration Parameter was added,  WA BETWEEN SHIPMENT DISTANCE COST MULTIPLIER allows the user to control the cost impact of the distance traveled between shipments on a Work Assignment.   This cost is used only to influence the Work Assignment Optimization Algorithm and is not an actual cost on any shipment.  The default value of the parameter is 1.  This results in a cost of one monetary unit per distance unit.   (Example $/mile)  The default provides the same behavior as prior to this enhancement.  The larger the value for the parameter, the costlier the distances between the shipments are viewed in the optimization algorithm, so the optimizer will be more likely to minimize this distance.

Business Benefit

The planning logic considers the costs between shipments as a real variable in the algorithm.

Steps to Enable

There is a new parameter to be configured.

The two shipments to be linked in the WA may be close together or not.  This enhancement adds a cost between shipments.

Tips And Considerations

This enhancement does not address time gaps between the start time of the Resource Schedule Instance (RSI) and the start of the first shipment in the WA or between the end of the last shipment in the WA and the end time of the RSI.

This enhancement does NOT address adding a NFR stop to the downstream shipment.
