Smart Actions for Drilldowns in OTBI based Reports
Smart Actions for Drilldowns introduces embedded action capabilities directly within the report consumption experience. Before this feature, Sales Users who identified an insight, an overdue opportunity, a stalled lead, or a high priority account, had to leave the report view entirely, navigate to the foldout list view, and then perform the desired action. This constant context switching added unnecessary clicks, broke concentration, and slowed down the response time that separates a closed deal from a missed one.
With this feature, action capabilities are embedded directly into the drilldown layer of visualizations. When a Sales User drills into a bar chart, a table row, or any other data point, they are presented with Smart Actions that are dynamically defined based on the data context of the specific record. These actions include opening the related record, creating a task, logging a follow up activity, or triggering a predefined workflow. The system understands the record type and surfaces only the actions that are relevant, ensuring a clean, focused experience.
The feature applies to visualizations created through the Visualization Configuration Tool where drilldowns are enabled. For OTBI based visualizations, including those with complex configurations such as computed columns, formula based filters, or advanced custom criteria, Smart Actions are now fully supported. When multiple drilldowns are defined within a single OTBI visualization, the user is presented with an intuitive selection interface to choose which Smart Action to trigger, ensuring precision even in multi layered reporting scenarios.
Enabling Smart Actions requires no additional technical configuration. Sales Admins can activate the capability during visualization setup with a single click. Actions respect all existing access controls, ensuring that users only see and execute actions they are authorized to perform. This design makes the feature both powerful for daily use and safe for enterprise governance.
