Support Transform Depot Repair Work Orders
Asset transformation changes the form or function of an asset to increase its value, utility, and efficiency. You can now use a repair work order to transform a serialized asset to another serialized asset. When creating a repair work order, mark it as a transform work order to capture the target asset as a transformed asset.
Creating a Depot Repair Work Order for Asset Transformation
In the Create Repair Order window, create a repair work order for an asset, select the Target Item (the transformed serialized item, resulting from the completion of the work order), and click Create, as shown in the following screenshot.
After creating the repair work order in Service Logistics, perform all the work order activities in Maintenance Cloud. The Edit Work Order page, General tab, Completion Information header displays the transforming work order details, including the Target Item entered in the Service Logistics Create Repair Work Order page.
A serial number is generated for the target item and the transformed asset is returned to inventory once you close the repair work order.
If you reopen the work order for the transformed asset, the asset displays in its original state. The asset history shows all the asset changes that occurred as part of the transformation.
With this feature, you can now use the depot repair process to transform assets for product upgrades and for the retrofitting of assets.
Steps to Enable
Enable the following opt-in features to transform work orders using the My Maintenance Work mobile user interface workbench:
- Assign Assets for Repair to a Maintenance Work Order and Return to Inventory After Repair
- Maintain Multiple Assets of the Same Item on a Single Work Order
Tips And Considerations
These are the key Maintenance Cloud considerations related to Target Item selection and transformation work order validations.
- Associate transformed assets with an asset-tracked and serial-controlled item.
- The serial generation policy of the target item is conditional and is based on the inventory completion option in the work order.
- The target item has the same unit of measure as the asset’s current (pre-transformation) item.
- The target item belongs to the same work order organization as the asset’s current (pre-transformation) item.
- Other work orders for the same asset can’t be released while a transform work order is in progress.
- Two transform work orders on the same asset can't be in progress simultaneously.
- Asset transformation is optional at the time of completion, even for a transform work order.
- The serial number used during transformation needs to be valid for its uniqueness and status.
