Manage Shift Operator Assignments for Workstations When Supervising Production

Managing people and distributing work to ensure optimal utilization of labor resources is a major responsibility for production supervisors on the shop floor. Supervisors manage the staffing and make updates in response to requirement changes and real-time labor availability during the shift.

With this update, supervisors can assign operators to workstations for a shift. You can assign operators that belong to the resources for the context work center. When assigning operators, operators that were previously assigned to the workstation are identified and placed at the top of the list for quick assignment to the workstation. You can assign multiple operators to a workstation. You can also assign one operator to multiple workstations.

Supervisors can also unassign operators from one workstation and assign them to a different workstation in response to real-time requirements, such as workstation availability changes, work priority changes, or changes in operator availability. If the operator is already checked in to a workstation, the supervisor can check out an operator.

As a production supervisor, you can staff a workstation ahead of shift start. You can view operator assignments for up to eight shifts ahead. When performing operator assignments at a workstation, you can look at the workload of operation assignments at the workstation and make operator assignments accordingly.

Supervisors have an organized and convenient method to assign work to their team. They are also better prepared to handle dynamic availability constraints during the shift. Efficient shift operator assignments help improve productivity and increase labor efficiency.

Here's the demo of these capabilities:

Steps to Enable

Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.

Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials ManagementNo Longer Optional From: Update 25C

This feature Manage Shift Operator Assignments for Workstations When Supervising Production is a child feature of Monitor Workstation Performance When Supervising Production feature.

The Opt-in for Manage Shift Operator Assignments for Workstations When Supervising Production is based on the parent feature Monitor Workstation Performance When Supervising Production. The parent feature has an Opt-in: When the parent feature is enabled, the child feature also gets enabled.

Tips And Considerations

  • You can assign operators who have been added as resource instances for the resource and have a person type of Employee or Contingent Worker.
  • You can assign operators either ahead of time, at the beginning of the shift, or during the shift.
