Redwood: Create and Edit Valuation Structures Using a New User Experience

Valuation structures and valuation units define the granularity level at which the cost of an item is maintained. It contains the costing attributes that are used to segregate costs. Valuation structure is one of the attributes of an item cost profile and helps you identify the inventory control attributes that are used to track costs. When a cost profile is assigned to an item, the cost processor uses the valuation structure of the cost profile to determine how to calculate the item cost.

You can now create and edit valuation structures using Redwood pages.

The Valuation Structures page displays all the valuation structures, sorted by last updated date in the descending order, by default. You can search for valuation structures and filter the results based on your requirements using these options:

  • Valuation Structure Type (Asset, Expense or Consigned)
  • Valuation Structure Mode (Automatic, Manual or both)
  • Cost Valuation Granularity
  • Valuation Structure Set

You can modify the valuation structure mode and description. You can delete a valuation structure only if it hasn't been used in a cost profile. You can easily access the related setup pages using the navigation links at the bottom of the page, which provides a holistic view of the valuation structures setup flow.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • In the Setup and Maintenance work area, the Redwood version of the Valuation Structures page is enabled by default in this update, but the existing version of the Manage Valuation Structures page is still available in the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management offering. You should move to the Redwood version of the page at your earliest convenience, because the existing version of the page will be removed from the application in a future update.
  • You can provide guidance such as tutorials, company policies, and best practices in the context of valuation structures using guided journey tasks.
  • If you set the cost method as standard cost or periodic average cost in the cost profile, then the costing attributes of the valuation structure set on the cost profile can be only at the Cost Organization level or the Cost Organization – Inventory Organization level. For these cost methods, you can’t maintain costs at a more granular level.
  • The Project and Task costing attributes are applicable only if you have opted in and set up Project-Driven Supply Chain.
  • After transactions are performed against a valuation structure, you must not change the valuation structure by adding or deleting costing attributes. Doing so could cause unpredictable results, especially if some transactions are already costed using the original valuation structure.
  • If the valuation structure doesn't match the inventory attributes of the inventory items, conflicts may arise within the cost processor.
