Redwood: Review Work Order Costs
You can now review costs for manufacturing work orders that use the discrete, process, and flow manufacturing work methods using the new Redwood page Work Order Costs. The page provides a summary and detail view of the costs incurred in a work order, such as input costs, output costs, scrap, and variances.
On this new page, you can:
- View all work orders for the plants linked to the cost organizations that you have access to.
- View summary information for the work order and drill down to the details of the work order or review the distributions on the Costing Transaction and Distributions page.
- Personalize your view by using the Customize Columns feature.
- Search for work orders and use additional filters to add more context to your search results
The landing page provides a quick summarized view of the costs with an option to add more columns that are hidden by default. You can also use the additional filters to add more context to your search results.

Use the Customize Columns option to hide or show additional columns that provide more information on the work order and the costs.

Click the work order number link to access the work order costs page where you can view more details on the inputs, outputs, scrap, and variance. Use the filter chips and smart search to quickly drill down to an operation, component, resource, cost element type, or cost element level details.

The Input Costs tab also provides a summarized view of material, resource, and overhead costs by each operation.

The Output Costs tab shows the summary view and the details view of the products completed in the work order.

The Variance tab provides more insights on the type of variances, planned versus actual variances, and the variance amounts. You can narrow down the search results by operation name, item, resource, cost element type, and cost elements.
Standard Cost Variances
The new Redwood functionality offers significant advantages :
- Keyword search and filters enable faster, more accurate navigation.
- Summarized view of work order costs and the ability to drill down to details by using a variety of filters, such as operation name, component, resource, and cost elements.
Steps to Enable
- In the Setup and Maintenance work area, search for and select the Manage Administrator Profile Values task.
- On the Manage Administrator Profile Values page, search for and select the ORA_CST_REVIEW_WORK_ORDER_COSTS_REDWOOD_ENABLED profile option code.
- In the Profile Values section, set the Site level to Yes. The default value is No.
- Yes = enables the feature
- No = disables the feature
- Click Save and Close. Changes in the profile value will affect users the next time they sign in.
After you've set the profile value correctly, the task pane under Cost Accounting would show the task menu link as Work Order Costs. Using this link, you can access the Redwood page.
Tips And Considerations
- You can use this page to view costs for different kinds of work orders including discrete, process, and flow manufacturing work methods.
- The work order costs summary for existing work orders are upgraded as part of the Cost Accounting Distributions program after you enable the Redwood page through the profile option. The upgrade program runs for a finite number of work order transactions in each run and might require a few cost processor runs to summarize all the historical work orders.

Access Requirements
Users who are assigned a configured job role that contains the following privilege can access this feature:
- Allows review of costs and balances by each individual work order. (CST_REVIEW_WORK_ORDER_COSTS_PRIV)
- Allows review of costs and balances by each individual work order using a web service. (CST_REVIEW_WORK_ORDER_COSTS_WEB_SERVICE_PRIV)
