Redwood: Create and Edit Cost Component Mappings Using a New User Experience

Cost components are mapped to cost elements which the Oracle Cost Management uses to track the cost of items. You can create cost component mappings to map cost components to cost elements and to map source cost elements to destination cost elements when items are transferred from one inventory organization to another.

You can now create, modify, delete and search for cost component mappings using the Redwood pages. You can manage the cost component mappings only for the sets you've access to.

Search, Update and Delete Cost Component Mappings

On the Cost Component Mappings page, by default, you can view the records that are sorted by last updated date in the descending order. You can also modify and delete existing cost component mappings. When editing, you can view and update the details of the cost components to cost elements mapping and source cost elements to destination cost elements mapping. You can quickly access the related setup pages using the navigation links at the bottom of the page.

After creating a cost component mapping, on the details page you can define cost components to cost elements mapping and source cost elements to destination cost elements mappings. The mappings are grouped under three sets:

  • Predefined cost components to cost elements mapping
  • Landed cost components to cost elements mapping
  • Source cost elements to destination cost elements mappings

All the predefined components are listed for you to quickly create and update mappings.

Some of the benefits of this feature include:

  • Flexible cost structure: Quickly review and create cost component mappings that enables you to calculate item costs at different granularity levels for different business needs.
  • All the predefined cost components are available upfront. You can quickly review and define mappings directly from the UI.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • In the Setup and Maintenance work area, the Redwood version of the Cost Component Mappings page is enabled by default in this update, but the existing version of the Manage Cost Component Mapping Groups page is still available in the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management offering. You should move to the Redwood version of the page at your earliest convenience, because the existing version of the page will be removed from the application in a future update.
  • You can provide guidance such as tutorials, company policies, and best practices in the context of cost component mapping group using guided journey tasks.
  • Cost component mapping groups are defined at the set level. You can manage the cost component mapping groups only for the sets that you've access to.
  • Define mapping for the default cost component to cost elements to avoid cost processor errors.
  • For predefined cost components, the Include in Inventory option is always set to Yes, except for nonrecoverable tax for which it's set to No. You can't edit this setting.
  • You can modify the Include in Inventory option for the landed cost component mapping until it's used in cost processing.
