Redwood: Create and Edit Valuation Units Using a New User Experience

A valuation unit defines a set of values for the costing attributes defined in the corresponding valuation structure. When you define the valuation structure, you can specify whether the valuation units must be created automatically. The cost processor automatically creates the valuation units if the valuation structure mode is set to Auto or Both auto and manual. You can also manually create valuation units under a valuation structure by using different combinations of the corresponding costing attributes.

Based on the valuation structure type, the valuation unit can be an asset valuation unit, expense valuation unit, or consigned valuation unit.

In the Redwood pages, you can:

  • View all the valuation units units, including their details, such as the associated cost organization, valuation structure code, valuation unit, and so on.
  • Toggle the view to list only the manually defined valuation units or automatically defined valuation units or all valuation units.
  • Modify or delete valuation units.

The new Redwood page offers significant advantages:

  • Keyword search and filters enable faster, more accurate navigation.
  • Single consolidated view of all valuation units across cost organizations and cost books.
  • The toggle button allows you to easily filter and view valuation units for a specific valuation mode.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • In the Setup and Maintenance work area, the Redwood version of the Valuation Units page is enabled by default in this update, but the existing version of the Manage Valuation Units page is still available in the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management offering. You should move to the Redwood version of the page at your earliest convenience, because the existing version of the page will be removed from the application in a future update.
  • You can provide guidance such as tutorials, company policies, and best practices in the context of cost organizations using guided journey tasks page feature.
  • To ensure smooth operations, avoid opening or using the existing UI and the Redwood page in separate tabs.
  • Once transactions are performed against a valuation structure, changes to its costing attributes, such as adding or deleting them, aren't permitted.
  • When the creation mode is set to Both auto and manual, manual creation of valuation unit is optional because the valuation structure supports manually created as well as automatically created valuation units.
