You can now post charges based on estimate type for a service work order or return material authorization.

When posting charges from the Work Order Charges, Service Request Charges, and Depot Repair pages, if an approved estimate exists, the estimate type controls charge line generation, as described in the following list.

Estimate Types

  • Binding:  An automated fixed charge line is created for an amount equivalent to the estimated amount when charges are posted. The estimated amount is posted and invoiced, regardless of the actual debrief charges.

  • Not-to-exceed: An automated fixed charge line is created for an amount equivalent to the estimated amount when charges are posted even if the debrief charges exceed the estimated amount.

  • Non-binding: No automated fixed charge line is created when charges are posted. Instead, the debrief charges are posted and invoiced. The estimate is a guess, and the invoice amount equals the actual charge amount.

The estimate type only controls charge line generation when posting charges for the first time. Actual charges are posted if charges are posted more than once.

Use this feature to bill your customers based on your commitments to them. You now have the flexibility to determine the invoice amount when creating the estimate.

Steps to Enable

  1. Create an item to use when creating the automated fixed charge line. Assign the item a billing type of F and associate it with the inventory organization selected in the Default Inventory Organization profile option (INV_DEFAULT_ORG_ID).
  2. Assign the item to the ORA_RCL_DEF_ITEM_ESTIMATE_TYPE profile option.
  3. Define a service activity code (SAC) to use when creating automated fixed charge lines. Assign this SAC to the ORA_RCL_DEF_SAC_ESTIMATE_TYPE profile option.
