Redwood: Substitute Items When You View or Search Orders
Substitute an item when you view or search a sales order that's in Processing status. Use the substitute to fulfill your sales order when the original item isn't available. Before Update 25C, you could substitute only on classic pages. Now you can do it on redesigned pages too.
Realize these benefits:
- Reduce backorders and canceled sales orders.
- Reduce excess and obsolete inventory. Substituting an item gives you more flexibility in how you manage your inventory. You can spread demand across items, and then reduce the amount of safety stock you have to hold to meet demand spikes.
Sales Order Lines Page
Select a line that has the item you need to substitute, then click More Actions > Substitute:
Select the substitute and enter a reason:
Note the Process ID:
Use the Action Status page to monitor the substitution:
You can also use the Sales Order Lines Page to select and substitute items on more than one line. For example, select 8 lines, then provide the same substitution for all of them:

Tips And Considerations
You can substitute only a standard item. You can't substitute a configured item or kit.

Access Requirements
Users who are assigned a configured job role that contains these privileges can access this feature:
- Substitute Orchestration Order Fulfillment Line Item (DOO_SUBSTITUTE_ORCHESTRATION_ORDER_FULFILLMENT_LINE_ITEM_PRIV). Substitute an item on the order line on a redesigned page when you're in view mode.
- Override Fulfillment Line Item Substitution Allowed Indicator (DOO_SUBSTITUTE_ORCHESTRATION_ORDER_FULFILLMENT_LINE_OVERRIDE_ITEM_SUB_ALLOWED_PRIV). Substitute an item on the fulfillment line on a classic page.
- Update Bulk Orders (FOM_UPDATE_BULK_ORDERS_PRIV). Use the Order Management work area or the Sales Order Action Requests REST API to substitute more than one order line at a time.
