Redwood: Transition from Product Development and Product Information Management to Product Management

In update 25C, Product Development and Product Information Management work areas are merged into a single Product Management work area that uses common user interfaces, and they respond based on the user's role and state of the data.

As part of the migration to Product Management, views used in searches and user interfaces are simplified, and separate views for Product Development and Product Information Management are no longer required.

Simplified Navigation to Access Classic and Redwood Pages

You can navigate to Classic and Redwood pages using the Product Management icon or the Product Management Overview link under Quick Actions on the News Feed Home page. The Product Management landing page is displayed. On this page, you can access the various tasks using the links in the Actions panel. All non-Redwood pages are available under the Classic group.

Additional changes are:

  • The Product Management Experience task group is removed from the Tasks panel tab in the Product Development and Product Information Management work areas.
  • The Product Management landing page opens in a new tab.
  • You can continue to use the Product Development and Product Management work areas to access the Classic pages.
  • Profile options to access Manufacturer, Spoke Systems, and Deletion Groups Redwood pages are no longer required. These pages are set as the default.

The Product Development and Product Information Management work areas will continue to be available along with the Product Management landing page. Over time, the Product Management landing page will include the Redwood version of all Classic tasks available in the Product Development and Product Information Management work areas. Eventually, the Product Management landing page will fully replace the Product Development and Product Information Management work areas.

Migration of Product Development and Product Information Management Views to Product Management

You can copy the Product Development and Product Information Management views to Product Management using the Upgrade Product Management Data scheduled process. The migration is required since only views from Product Management will be used in the other Redwood pages.

The following screenshot shows the values you must select for the Upgrade Product Management Data scheduled process.

Migrate Product Development Views

Upgrade Product Management Data Scheduled Process Values

Parameter 1 value is the index for the views that are being migrated. For example; a value of Item will migrate the views for the item index. Other index names are Item, Workflow, Workflow History, Workflow Approvals, Structure, and Manufacturers. You can add more than one object separated by a comma.

Parameter 2 value determines the view that will be migrated based on the application. For example; a value of Product Development will migrate the views for the Product Development application. Other application names are Product Development and Product Hub.

This feature benefits your business by the following:

  • Simplified view management by displaying only the necessary views for the Redwood pages in Product Management.
  • Reduces the number of views that were shared between Product Development and Product Information Management work areas.
  • Consolidates all your views into one a single location, creating a unified work area.
  • Navigation is streamlined, allowing users to experience consistent behavior across the pages they access.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • Start using the Product Management landing page to access all Redwood pages.
  • Run the scheduled process only once to copy the existing views to the Product Management work area.
  • After migrating the views to Product Management, the views will continue to exist in the Product Development and Product Information Management work areas. You can delete the views when they’re not needed.
