A Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is a globally unique identifier for items, used to facilitate efficient product and packaging identification throughout your supply chain. Prior to this release, you could scan a GTIN to populate the correct item number for transactions using a mobile device. Now, scanning the GTIN barcode will automatically populate the unit of measure (UOM) associated with the GTIN, along with the item number for your transactions.

NOTE: This functionality is applicable only to mobile inventory transactions. There is no impact on desktop versions of the application.

Applicable Mobile Transactions:

  • Receive Goods
  • Inspect Goods
  • Put Away Goods
  • Miscellaneous Transactions
  • Subinventory Transfers
  • Interorganization Transfers
  • Cycle Counts
  • PAR Counting
  • Physical Inventory
  • Pick Confirm (Defaults only Item)

This enhancement ensures alignment with industry standards, reduces user error, and improves inventory accuracy in mobile-enabled supply chain operations.

Miscellaneous Transactions

This feature increases your operational efficiency and reduces transactional errors by allowing you to scan a GTIN barcode and automatically transact the goods using the unit of measure associated with that GTIN.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • The functionality to scan a GTIN and have it default the transaction's UOM to the UOM associated with the GTIN will be supported only in mobile inventory flows.
  • There is no impact on desktop-based transactions. Desktop users still need to manually select the appropriate UOM.
  • Ensure that all relevant GTIN-to-item and UOM mappings are correctly maintained in the Product Information Management work area to fully leverage this functionality in mobile workflows.
  • If one GTIN is shared across multiple items, the system will prompt the user to scan a specific item.
  • For the pick confirm transaction, this functionality only defaults the item number. The UOM will be derived from the transfer order.
