Redwood: Use Predefined Extensible Flexfield Attributes to Maintain Item Product Lines

Use this feature if you are currently using product lines on Product Development items, or if you want to track the product lines on your items. The product line extensible flexfield (EFF) allows you to select from a controlled list of product lines via a value set. Changes to this field are redlined on change orders, with full visibility into what changed, when, and by whom. Value set entries can be expanded, deprecated, or retired under appropriate governance. The new setup integrates seamlessly with OTBI, REST APIs, and product rules, eliminating the need for catalog-based workarounds.

This feature benefits your business in the following ways:

  • Improved change audit and compliance readiness for any product line updates.
  • Faster change configuration as business users and partners or system integrators don't have to create configured attributes to hold product line changes.
  • Improved data governance prevents the proliferation of outdated or inconsistent product line values.
  • Streamlined reporting enables unified views of product hierarchy and portfolio performance, without relying on catalog joins.

Steps to Enable

To enable the product line extensible flexfields, you must add the product line extensible flexfield (ORA_EGP_PRODUCT_LINES) to an item class.

If you're currently using product lines on Product Development items, and want to migrate your product lines to the predefined product line extensible flexfield (ORA_EGP_PRODUCT_LINES), you must run the Upgrade Product Management Data Enterprise Scheduler Service (ESS) job. This migration job updates the product line value set and associates the existing items with the new value set.

If you want to track product lines on your items, or add or edit values, update the value set for the context segment (ORA_EGP_PRODUCT_LINES_VS).

Tips And Considerations

To view the product line extensible flexfield in Redwood, you need to add the product line attributes to the Item index and rebuild the index.
