Define Operation Yield for Calculated Batch Quantities in Process Manufacturing

This update introduces operation yield value calculations, specifically for process manufacturing work order operations that use calculated batch quantities with a formula-based item structure.

With this update:

  • Users can specify the operation yield value for each operation when creating the process work definition. The yield values are inherited automatically when creating the process work orders.
  • Actual input and output quantities, as well as yield-specific metrics, are tracked at the operation level during work order execution.
  • The yield loss, actual yield percentage, actual cumulative yield percentage, planned operation yield percentage, and planned cumulative yield percentage are calculated and displayed per operation.
  • The yield calculation logic and behavior aligns with industries that use formula-based work definitions and physical batch quantities.

The operation yield for the operation can use the default value from the standard operation or specify the value for the process work definition operation.

When a process work order is first created, the operation yield values inherit the values from the process work definition.

When the process work order operations are executed, based on the Intermediate In Quantity, Materials Issued, Intermediate Out Quantity, and Materials Reported, the various operation level yield values are calculated and displayed. The action View Operation Yield Values is available for all the operations of the process work order with calculated batch quantity.

The enhancement unlocks several benefits for process manufacturers:

  • Improved Yield Analysis: Enables detailed tracking of planned versus actual yield for each operation within the process, allowing for immediate identification and root-cause analysis of yield losses.
  • Operational Efficiency: By making planned and actual yields more visible and actionable throughout the process, supervisors and operators can proactively adjust operations, optimize batch performance, and reduce material losses.

Steps to Enable and Configure

This feature is available for process work orders with the “Process Batch Quantity Type” set to "Calculated".

Tips And Considerations

  • Yield values and the View Operation Yield Values action are available in the Work Orders (Redwood UI) and the Production Supervision pages at the operation level for eligible work orders.
  • Operation yield does not automatically recalculate materials, outputs, or resource requirements in the process work order.
  • Yield measurement is supported for in-house count point operations only.
