Enable formulas in rate plans to calculate charges for subscription items

You can now use formulas in rate plans to calculate one-time, recurring, and usage charges for a subscription item.

Get these benefits:

Calculate one-time, recurring, and usage charges directly in rate plans using formulas.

Reuse corporate rate-plan charges across regional price lists.

Reference charges from a different subscription item or rate plan when needed.

Use effective dates and calculation reference dates to select the applicable source charge.

Reduce manual regional price maintenance while retaining centralized pricing governance.

Support competitive pricing by comparing referenced rate-plan charges and using the lower result.

The following examples illustrate the supported formula patterns:

Same subscription item and rate plan: Apply a 10% discount from Corporate Business Fiber Internet Gold rate plan to calculate an EMEA Business Fiber Internet Gold rate plan charge.

Different subscription item: Apply a 20% markup from Corporate Business Fiber Internet Gold rate plan to calculate an EMEA Business 5G Internet Gold rate plan charge.

Different rate plan: Apply a 15% markup from Corporate Business Fiber Internet Gold rate plan to calculate an APAC Business Fiber Internet Platinum rate plan charge.

Rate-plan comparison: Compare Corporate and EMEA Business 5G Internet Gold rate plan charges, select the lower charge, and apply a 5% discount to calculate an APAC Business 5G Internet Gold charge.

Navigation: Order Management --> Pricing Administration --> Formulas

Start on the Formulas page, where you can search for existing formulas, view or edit a formula or create a new formula. Select Create Formula:

When you select Create, the Create formula side panel opens where you can enter the formula name, select the business unit, select a currency, and select Rate Plan in Applicable In to create a formula that can be used to calculate charges in a rate plan. Then select Next:

When you select Next, the formula expression builder side panel opens where you can select the Rate Plan formula entity. This will show various rate plans available for a subscription item in a price list. Drag and drop a rate plan into the expression builder and construct your formula as desired. Then select Save:

When you select Save, the new rate plan formula is created:

Use the newly created formula for rate plan to calculate charges of rate plan for a subscription item in a price list. Search and select the required price list, and select the price list name hyperlink:

When you select the hyperlink, the price list shows various subscription items with rate plans. Select the Platinum rate plan hyperlink:

When you select the + icon, the Add one-time charge panel opens. Select Advanced, select the charge, and select Formula in if you want to calculate the charge using a formula. Select a formula, pick a reference date, and select the Allow Price Override and Allow Periodic Billing options as required. Then select Add:

Create formulas that calculate a subscription item's one-time, recurring, and usage charges in a rate plan. A formula can reference charges from another price list and rate plan, including a rate plan for a different subscription item.
Use the calculation reference date to select the applicable effective-dated charge from the referenced rate plan. Apply pricing rules such as discounts, markups, or comparisons that select the lower of two referenced charges.

Steps to enable and configure

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips and considerations

The calculation reference date determines which effective-dated charge the referenced rate plan provides. Use a date within the source rate plan's effective period.

Apply a formula independent to each charge type that you want to calculate: one-time, recurring, or usage.

A formula can use a source rate plan for a different subscription item from the item whose charge it calculates.

A formula can use a different source rate plan from the target rate plan, such as using a gold rate plan to calculate a platinum rate plan charge.

Use a percentage multiplier to apply a discount or markup to the referenced charge. For example, multiply the source charge by 0.90 for a 10% discount or by 1.20 for a 20% markup.

Use a minimum comparison when the target charge should be based on the lower of two referenced rate-plan charges, and then apply an additional adjustment when needed.

Review the referenced price list, subscription item, rate plan, and effective dates before using a formula to confirm that the calculation uses the intended source charge.
