Bulk Routing Daily Travel Limit

As a result of the California electric vehicle law (and similar ones that are to be applied in the future), our customers are obliged to have at least some part of their fleet switched to electric vehicles. Commercially available electric trucks accommodate limited range of miles per charge while not supporting fast recharge, which requires their scheduled routes to be within the established limits.  As of 24C version, OFS supports limiting total daily travel via Bulk Routing.

Supporting electric vehicle limits via routing enables efficient resource scheduling within the constraints of their assigned electric vehicle.

Steps to Enable

To enable the feature, edit the desired Routing Plan, turn on SLR, turn on Daily travel limit, miles/km and set up the appropriate limit value.

Tips And Considerations

Q: Does the daily travel limitation support intra-day routing?

A: Yes, the intraday routing is supported. For the run started in the middle of the day, the daily limit sent to routing is decreased for the total value of travel for the activities in the routes, which are either in final or enroute status or is in the pending status but the travel for it should have been already started. The mileage of those travels is calculated by dividing the travel time by statistically calculated average speed, which may overestimate the already traveled mileage.

Q: Could the daily travel limit be set for the part of resources?

A: No, the daily travel limit is set per plan. So, if there is only part of resources that should be limited, one should created two plans - one with the limit and working only for those resources having EV, and another one for the rest without limitations. Those two plans may run e.g. as a part of sequence starting from one with limitations.

Q: Is the daily travel limit supported by other part of the system?

A: As of now, only Bulk Routing could enforce the daily travel limit. Other parts of the system, including Immediate Routing, Move Assistant, Direct Assignment Booking and Dispatch Console, doesn't support this kind of limitation.

Q: Does Continuous Improvement Routing Plans support daily travel limit?

A: Yes, all kind of Bulk Routing plans support the daily travel limit.

Q: Could this functionality be used by a company that is on Standard SKU?

A: Unfortunately, SLR support in routing is crucial for daily travel limit functionality, so only plans having SLR on may utilize the daily travel limit. Thus, this functionality is not supported on SKUs without SLR.
