Ability to apply overrides and generate statistics on demand

The Oracle Fusion Field Service 25A update enhances the application of statistical overrides in Oracle Fusion Field Service environments. Previously, users could set override values using the Statistics API, but these overrides were only applied if corresponding keys already existed in the system with existing activities. For keys that did not exist, override values were applied only to newly created activities, either upon automatic activity recalculation or as a result of the daily execution of the statistics agent in the production environment.

This update ensures that override values can now be applied more broadly, allowing seamless application even for newly introduced keys. This is especially valuable in newly created or updated environments where activity data may not yet exist. In test environments, the system will also recalculate all statistical data based on additional data reported by mobile workers, as well as travel data received from location services.

For example, a company might be testing a new delivery route that includes both urban and rural areas, each with distinct travel and activity duration requirements. To simulate realistic conditions, the company applies overrides for travel and activity duration keys specific to this route using the Statistics API. Now, using the enhanced Apply Statistics API Overrides and Recalculate Statistics option in test environments, they can:

  • Apply all duration and travel overrides immediately, even for newly created keys associated with activities that have not yet been created in the environment.
  • Recalculate travel durations using pre-calculated point-to-point estimations for up to 60,000 travel keys, incorporating accurate travel data for both urban and rural segments.
  • Update both new and existing keys in the statistics tables, ensuring they have accurate and realistic data for testing.

With these updates, the company can simulate and validate the route suggested by the automatic routing engine, assessing delivery times and resource allocation under realistic conditions. This enables them to make data-driven decisions and optimize routes before implementing them in production. This example illustrates how the enhanced capability enables comprehensive scenario testing and validation, even for new or previously untested routes.

New Option in Test Environments

In test environments, the existing Apply Statistics API Overrides Only option in the Statistics configuration screen has been updated to Apply Statistics API Overrides and Recalculate Statistics. This new option will not only apply all statistical overrides, but also recalculate all statistical data based on additional data reported by field resources as well as travel data received from location services. This new option performs several actions that improve data accuracy and application consistency:

  • Applies Travel and Activity Duration Overrides: The overrides are applied regardless of existing learned duration estimations.
  • Enhanced Travel Data: Utilizes pre-calculated point-to-point travel durations estimations for up to 60,000 pairs of travel keys.
  • Recalculation of Durations: Uses both travel data and newly reported durations from field resources.

NOTE: If the active travel or activity duration key configuration was modified after statistical data was copied from another environment as a part of refresh environment, selecting Apply Statistics API Overrides and Recalculate Statistics will delete the copied statistical data. If no key configuration changes were made, this option only updates the data without deleting previously copied data, preserving accuracy and consistency.

Applying the Changes

When the Apply button is selected in the dialog box, the application begins the override and recalculation process. The message 'Applying overrides and recalculating statistics' is displayed until the process finishes. Once completed, a success message appears on the Statistics Configuration page to confirm that the overrides and recalculations are applied successfully.

Updates to Production Environments

In production environments, the existing Apply Statistics API Overrides Only option remains available. However, this option has been enhanced to apply overrides for any keys, even if no prior activities exist for the associated key. This improvement allows the system to immediately start using overridden values for new keys that were never used in the system before.

Business Benefit

  • Enables faster and more efficient operational setup by allowing the immediate use of overridden values without waiting for learned data to accumulate in the system.
  • You can test routing activity assignment on test environments, using data that closely resembles the actual data used in production. This allows you try different routing options to best suit their needs before moving to production.
  • In production, you can ensure a smooth and reliable start to operations for new job types or expanding travel areas by applying overrides for keys that lack data for statistics-based estimations.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

  • If the active travel or activity duration key configuration was modified after statistical data was copied from another environment as a part of refresh environment, selecting Apply Statistics API Overrides and Recalculate Statistics will delete the copied statistical data. If no key configuration changes were made, the Apply Statistics API overrides and Recalculate Statistics option will only update the data without deleting previously copied data, preserving accuracy and consistency.
