Support for new PIM Catalog in DCS Portal RI and Embedded Service RI

In 26D, we're updating DCS Portal and Embedded Service applications to support Oracle's new PIM Product Catalog.  This is a technical enhancement and there is no change to the end-user experience.

Here's what changes:

  • Product-related features, including Product Selectors, Knowledge Search, Visual Navigator, and Product Details, now use the new PIM-based catalog.
  • This replaces the legacy catalog integration with Oracle's strategic product catalog platform.
  • From a customer perspective, the experience stays the same - the pages and chat launch forms look and work as they do today.

This is standard in the 26C DCS Reference Implementation.  A migration path is available for customers on an earlier portal version by logging a Service Request.

The value is behind the scenes:

  • A more modern and future-ready architecture.
  • Consistent product catalog behavior across the application.
  • An easier path to adopt Oracle's latest product catalog capabilities

Steps to enable and configure

In Visual Builder editor, create an application using the 26D DCS Reference Implementation:

  1. Select the productCatalogType application constant
    1. Open the application in VBCS and select Variables.
    2. Select the Application scope, then open Constants.
    3. Select the string constant named productCatalogType.
    4. Set its default value to qsc.
    5. For the PIM deployment, set the configured value to pim.
    6. Save.
  2. Select the guestSiteToken application constant
    1. Open the application in VBCS and select Variables.
    2. Select the Application scope, then open Constants.
    3. Select the string constant named guestSiteToken.
    4. For your PIM deployment, set the configured value to the token you find in Profile Option ORA_SVC_GUEST_SITE_TOKEN.  This is used only for PIM Guest User API requests.
    5. Save.
  3. Select the usageCode application variable
    1. Open the application in VBCS and select Variables.
    2. Select the Application scope, then open Variables.
    3. Select the string variable named usageCode.
    4. This variable maps to the PIM catalog you want to use.  The default value is BASE.  For your PIM deployment, set the configured value to what you have set in profile option code  CUSTOM_SVC_GUEST_CATALOG_CODES.
    5. Save.

In the Fusion Service application,

  1. Search for the task Manage Administrator Profile Values
    1. Search for profile option code ORA_SVC_GUEST_SITE_TOKEN.
Stores security site token for guest users.
    2. Search for profile option code CUSTOM_SVC_GUEST_CATALOG_CODES
At site level enter a Site level a comma-separated list of PIM catalog codes that the guest users can access (for example UNIFIED_CATALOG or BASE, DEMO.  Leave blank only when Guest User PIM access isn't configured.

Tips and considerations

A migration plan is possible for upgrading earlier DCS Portal applications (pre 26D). The exact steps will vary by the template the application was originally based on, and by which product catalog touchpoints the application actually uses.  Log a Service Request for help.
