Negative Usages in Weekly Energy Updates

Negative usages are supported in the Weekly Energy Updates. Weekly Energy Updates are email reports sent to customers every week to inform them of their energy usage patterns, trends, and projected energy usage or costs. Previously, customers with negative usage were not eligible for the reports. With this update, customers on net metering tariffs are eligible to receive Weekly Energy Updates that include clear and easy to understand insights about their net usage.

Key features include:

• Allowing notifications to be sent to customers who generate more energy than they use.
• Displaying negative values clearly in report charts to represent excess energy generation.
• Updating language from “energy use” to “net energy” for greater accuracy.
• Changing headline comparisons from percentages to differences measured in kilowatt hours (kWh).
• Adding congratulatory messages to celebrate customers who generate surplus energy.

This update improves the reach and impact of the Weekly Energy Update communications by expanding the audience to include a more complex customer population.
