How can I set the Close Date field to be blank when I create an opportunity?

The Opportunity Close Date Default (MOO_DEFAULT_CLOSE_WINDOW) profile option determines the number of days to add to the current date when calculating the default opportunity close date. By default, your sales application automatically sets the Close Date to 20 days after today's date when you create an Opportunity.

If the default value of 20 days doesn't suit your business requirements, you can edit the Opportunity Close Date Default profile option to change the close date value. For example, you might want the Close Date field to always be blank when you create an opportunity. Here are the steps to change profile option.

  1. In the Setup and Maintenance work area, go to:

    • Offering: Sales

    • Functional Area: Sales Foundation

    • Task: Manage Administrator Profile Values

  2. From the search region of the Manage Administrator Profile Values page, enter the profile option code name (MOO_DEFAULT_CLOSE_WINDOW in the Profile Option Code field.

  3. Click Search.

  4. In the Profile Value field of the Opportunity Close Date Default profile, remove the default value of 20 and leave blank.

  5. Click Save and Close.

When you next create an Opportunity, the Close Date field will now be blank.
