How can I view translated text for lookups and other translation-enabled fields?
For custom fields that specifically use lookup types or other translation enabled fields, such as Sales Method and Sales Stage for the Opportunity business object, you can use the following high-level steps to view translations for your custom records.
Note: To translate other custom object labels and field labels, you
can use the string editor User Interface Text as an option. The
following steps don’t apply to field types, such as Dynamic Choice List (DCL), Text, or
Long Text.
- Sign in as an administrator to your sales application using the default language preference such as American English.
- While in a sandbox, create a custom field or custom data value using Application Composer.
- Publish the sandbox.
- Sign out and sign in again by selecting the translation preference language you want, such as Spanish, from the Select Language drop-down list.
-
Navigate to the area or page where your custom text is displayed and then edit the record.Note: The custom data will be displayed in the American English source language.
-
Edit the custom record and click Save.
Saving the custom record translates only the custom data to Spanish and doesn't change the source language for other text values on the record. You can verify this by doing the following:
- Sign in again to your sales application.
- Change your language preference back to American English
- Edit the custom record again, and the custom values will display in the original English language.
Note: You can use the User Interface Text application to translate
custom smart action display labels. If the custom smart action cache of the label
isn't automatically refreshed after publishing the sandbox, you might need to
manually refresh the cache.
