Set the Target

You can use the Allocation Targets area in your allocation rule to set the target for your rule. The behavior is different depending on the specification type that you set for the rule.

You can use the Manage Planning Allocation Rules page in the Order Promising work area to specify an allocation target for the number, percentage, or ratio.

Assume you create a High Priority demand class and a Low Priority demand class. Here's one way you can target them.

Specification Type	Description
Number	Allocate a fixed quantity to the demand class. For example, to allocate 500 units to the high priority demand class, set these values. Set Specification Type to Number. In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to High Priority, and set Allocation Target to 500. In this example, the Allocation Target is a number.
Percentage	Allocate a percent of the total supply to the demand class. For example, to allocate 20% of your supply to the low priority demand class, set these values. Set Specification Type to Percentage. In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to Low Priority, and set Allocation Target to 20. If the total supply that's currently available is 1,000 units, then Promising will promise up to 200 units for the low priority demand class. In this example, the Allocation Target is a percentage.
Ratio	Use a ratio between demand classes to divide supply, then allocate the divided supply to the demand classes. For example, to create a three to one ratio between the High Priority demand class and the Low Priority demand class, set these values. Set Specification Type to Ratio. In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to High Priority, and set Allocation Target to 3. In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to Low Priority, and set Allocation Target to 1. If the total supply that's currently available is 2,000 units, then Promising will promise up to 1,500 units for the High Priority demand class, and up to 500 units for the Low Priority demand class. In this example, the Allocation Target is a ratio.

In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to Low Priority, and set Allocation Target to 20.

If the total supply that's currently available is 1,000 units, then Promising will promise up to 200 units for the low priority demand class.

In this example, the Allocation Target is a percentage.

Ratio

Use a ratio between demand classes to divide supply, then allocate the divided supply to the demand classes.

For example, to create a three to one ratio between the High Priority demand class and the Low Priority demand class, set these values.

Set Specification Type to Ratio.
In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to High Priority, and set Allocation Target to 3.
In the Allocation Targets area, click Actions > Add Row, then set Demand Class to Low Priority, and set Allocation Target to 1.

If the total supply that's currently available is 2,000 units, then Promising will promise up to 1,500 units for the High Priority demand class, and up to 500 units for the Low Priority demand class.
