How You Send Shipment Lines Using Only a Specific Subinventory

You can send shipment lines to an external execution system only when on-hand quantity available in a specific subinventory.

Subinventories provide a way for you to separate your on-hand quantities to meet specific segregation requirements. You can create outbound shipment requests for a specific Pick-from Subinventory using the Create Outbound Shipment Request process.

Here's how it works:
  1. The process will first evaluate all the shipment lines available for release against the selected subinventory.
  2. The shipment lines are sent to the external system if a sufficient quantity is available to fulfil the request.
  3. The shipment lines are either partially sent or not sent at all if there isn't a sufficient quantity available to fulfil the request.
Note: You can interface the shipment lines for full or partial quantity depending on the on-hand availability in Pick-from Subinventory and Pick-from Locator in the Outbound Shipment Request page and the Reservation Behavior for Integration to External Systems parameter in the Manage Shipping Parameters page.
  • If the Reservation Behavior for Integration to External Systems option is set to Partially reserved lines and on-hand quantity is partially available in the Pick-from Subinventory, you can interface the Shipment lines for partial quantity.

  • If the Reservation Behavior for Integration to External Systems option is set to Fully reserved lines and on-hand quantity is fully available in the Pick-from Subinventory, you can interface the Shipment lines for full quantity.

  • If the Reservation Behavior for Integration to External Systems option is set to All lines without creating reservation, the Pick-from Subinventory is ignored and all shipment lines are sent without creating any reservations.

Additional Considerations

Here are a few points to consider before you send shipment lines to a 3PL or WMS:
  1. You can send shipment lines to external systems by running the Create Outbound Shipment Request process with the Prior Reservations Only option in conjunction with the Pick-from Subinventory option. This ensures the creation of detailed reservations only for shipment lines with prior reservations.

  2. When the subinventory provided on the order line does not have enough on-hand quantity to send the shipment lines, you can override the source subinventory with a different Pick-from Subinventory.
