Forecasting for ETO Items

Using a demand or demand and supply plan, you can generate a forecast for an engineer-to-order (ETO) item.

In an ETO environment, the item details are finalized after the sales order is concluded. The engineering and manufacturing teams determine the bill of material (BOM) and other manufacturing details for the ETO item only after understanding the sales order.

The reference information that ties the ETO item to the base model is manually entered. However, the item specifications aren't dynamically generated during the conclusion of the sales order.

You can accomplish the following:

  • Collect demand history for the base model that's associated with the ETO item.

    To collect demand history for the base model that's associated with the ETO item, on the Demand Planning Data subtab on the Parameters tab on the Collect Planning Data page, select the Collect history from associated base models check box.

  • Generate a forecast for the base model.

  • Using planning percentages, calculate the dependent demand for the option class and option items associated with the base model.
