View Recommendations of the New Product Introduction Type in the Planning Advisor

This topic explains how you can view recommendations in the Planning Advisor for a demand plan that uses feature-based forecasting for new products.

A link to the Planning Advisor is displayed in the menu bar for a demand plan that uses feature-based forecasting. The number of open recommendations is displayed above the link. This number is refreshed when you accept or ignore recommendations. Every time the demand plan is run, the recommendations generated during the previous plan run are purged, and a new recommendation is generated for each combination of a feature-based forecasting profile and a new product.

Follow these steps to view the recommendations for feature-based forecasting:

  1. In the menu bar for a demand plan that uses feature-based forecasting, click the Planning Advisor link.

    The Planning Advisor opens.

  2. If you're using a demand and supply plan, and production monitoring alerts are also being used, in Recommendation Type, select New Product Introduction.

For a demand plan, the recommendation type is set to New Product Introduction.

  3. In Status, select the status by which you want to search for the recommendations.

  4. Use the Search fields to refine your search, and click the Search icon.

The recommendations for feature-based forecasting are displayed for each new product. The name of the feature-based forecasting profile that generated the recommendation is attached to the product name.

  5. Expand the row for a new product to view information about that product:

    • The measure that stores the demand forecast. This measure is the output measure for the feature-based forecasting profile that generated the forecast.

    • The predicted accuracy of the forecast.

The forecast accuracy is calculated on a sample of existing products across the parent level of the Item level that's specified in the AccuracyStratificationLevel forecasting parameter.

    • The five feature groups that contributed the most to the demand forecast.

    • The link to the page layout that displays the results of feature-based forecasting. You can modify the forecast on this page.

The name of the page layout is stored in the PlanningAdvisorNotificationLayout forecasting parameter.

  6. Accept or ignore the recommendations.

Note: Use the Accept or Ignore buttons for only changing the status of the recommendations and identifying them for actions that you intend to take later. Accepting or ignoring the recommendations doesn't automatically change the feature-based forecast in any way.
