Overview of Linking to External Systems with Context

You can link a table or graph in your Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Planning module to supporting information in an external system to gain a deep understanding of your data and aid your decision making.

Note: You can create links to external systems from only pivot tables and not regular tables.

When you're analyzing data in a table or graph in the Demand Management, Demand and Supply Planning, Planning Central, Replenishment Planning, Sales and Operations Planning, or Supply Planning work area, you might need to view additional information that resides in an external system. Using this functionality, you can link your table or graph to an object in the external system. For example, you can link your table or graph to a predefined or user-defined analysis or report in Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI), Oracle Analytics Cloud, or Oracle Analytics Publisher.

While specifying the link, you can pass dimensions, levels, and level members in your table or graph along with the link so that it opens the external system object with the context of the data in your table or graph. You can also pass the plan name or ID along with the link to restrict the displayed data in OTBI, Analytics Cloud, or Analytics Publisher.

How You Set Up Links to External Systems

To set up links to an external system, you must do the following:

  1. Set up the application integration for the external system.
  2. Configure a table or graph with a link to the external system.

Additional Points About Links to External Systems

Note these additional points about links to external systems:

  • Any link that you create from a table or graph to an external system is tied to that table or graph and your user credentials.

    When you log on to an Oracle Supply Chain Planning module, you can use the link in the table or graph from all plans that include the table or graph. Others with the required role and privileges can also use the link in the table or graph from all plans that include the table or graph.

    However, you can edit or delete the link only if you created it.

  • During data migration, when you export a table that contains a link to an external system and subsequently import the table, the link is available in the table.
  • When you duplicate the table or graph, you can choose to include the links to the external system in the copy.
