How You Manage Work Orders

As a production supervisor, you can view and manage work orders for the work centers that you oversee. To manage production, select Production Supervision from the Tasks menu in the Work Execution work area.

The Work Orders tab is the default tab that appears. The page shows you the work orders for the selected work center. You can change the work center from near the top of the page to any other work center that you manage. You can also select All Work Centers to see work orders from all the work centers that you manage.

The Work Orders page shows key operational metrics for the current shift, such as the planned quantity, completed quantity, scrapped quantity, yield, and open exceptions. By default, the list of work orders includes those work orders where at least one operation belongs to the selected work center and the operation time range is in the current shift. If a work order operation overlaps the current shift, such that the operation starts before the current shift or ends after the current shift, the work order still appears in the list.

Exceptions logged by operators are highlighted against the work order row for the immediate attention of the supervisor. You can also see the execution status, work order status, and the expedited state of work orders.

Search, Filter, and Sort Work Orders

You can search for work orders based on the work order number, product item, serial number, resource, material item, and customer name.

You can use various filters to narrow down the search, such as operation time range, status, exception type, expedited state, and workstation. You can also click Filters for a detailed list of filters and options.

You can save your work order searches, and optionally set a saved search as the default. The default search results are automatically loaded the next time.

To save a search, click Saved Searches after filtering the results. Click Create a Search and save the search with the desired options. The next time you wish to load the search, click Saved Searches and select the saved search name.

You can also change the sort order of work orders based on priority, planned start date, or planned completion date. Expedited work orders always appear at the top of the list, irrespective of the sort order.

Perform Work Order Actions

You can perform the following actions from the Work Orders tab:

  • Create a rework work order.

    Click Create Work Order on the Work Orders page.

  • Edit priority for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Edit Priority.

  • Release and pick materials for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Release and Pick Material.

  • Edit status for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Edit Status. For example, you may wish to put a work order on hold.

  • Print work order traveler report for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Print followed by Work Order Traveler.

  • Print material list report for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Print followed by Material List.

  • Print label report for one or more work orders.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Print followed by Labels.

  • Expedite or de-expedite a work order.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Expedite or De-expedite from the Actions menu for the work order row.

  • Reschedule a work order.

    Select one or more work orders from the list and click Reschedule from the Actions menu for the work order row.

  • View work order details for a work order.

    Click the work order number for the work order row.

View Work Order Details and Perform Additional Actions

You can navigate to the details page of any work order for more information. Click the work order number for the corresponding work order row.

Work order details include work order header details, details of operations, material requirements, resource requirements, serial number details, lot number details, and the transaction history of operations that belong to your work center.

Note: Only the work order operations in context of the selected work center are displayed. Likewise, materials and resources associated with these operations are listed.

In addition, you can perform the following actions from the work order detail pages:

  • Edit status.

    Click Edit Status on the work order page. For example, you may wish to put a work order on hold.

  • Edit priority.

    Click More Actions and select Edit Priority on the work order page.

  • Pick materials.

    Click More Actions and select Pick Materials on the work order page.

  • Print work order traveler.

    Click More Actions and select Print Work Order Traveler on the work order page.

  • Print labels.

    Click More Actions and select Print Labels on the work order page.

  • View work order and operation descriptive flex fields.

    You can view details under the Additional Information section. For operation-specific details, you can select View Details from the Actions menu for the operation under the Operations tab.

  • View exception details and close exception line.

    You can select View Exception Details from the Actions menu for the row under the Operations, Materials, or Resources tab.

  • Reschedule operation.

    Click More Actions and select Reschedule on the work order page. For a specific operation, select Reschedule from the Actions menu for the row under the Operations tab.

  • Reserve material.

    Select Reserve from the Actions menu for the row under the Materials tab.

  • Substitute material.

    Select Substitute from the Actions menu for the row under the Materials tab.

  • Create maintenance work order.

    Select Request Maintenance from the Actions menu for the row under the Resources tab.

  • Export transaction history.

    Click Export under the Transaction History tab for the work order.
