How Performance Goals Sections Affect Overall Performance Ratings
Performance Goal evaluation topics in a performance document contribute individually to the overall performance rating. When multiple performance goal topics exist, their combined weight determines the total contribution.
Each Performance Goals section in a performance document is evaluated independently. Its contribution is based on the weight assigned to that section.
The number of Performance Goal evaluation topics that display in an employees performance document depends on how many synchronized goal plans the employee has that match the configured performance goal sections in the performance template. Each matching synchronized goal plan creates a separate Performance Goals evaluation topic in a performance document.
If an employee has multiple goal plans that match the same Performance Goals section then they will be created as separate Performance Goals evaluation topics in the performance document
Same Number of Synchronized Goal Plans
When all employees have the same number of synchronized goal plans that match a Performance Goals section, you can set the section weight in the performance template so that all sections together meet the required contribution. For example, if Performance Goals must contribute 70% of the overall rating and each employee has two synchronized goal plans, assign 35% to each section. Together, the sections contribute the required 70%.
Different Numbers of Synchronized Goal Plans
When employees have different numbers of synchronized goal plans, a single section weight in the template may not work for everyone. For example, some employees might have one plan, while others have two.
In these cases, managers should adjust section weights in individual performance documents so that all Performance Goals sections together meet the required contribution.
| Template Section Weight | Manager Action |
|---|---|
| 70% | For employees with two goal plans, reduce each evalution topic weight to 35%. |
| 35% | For employees with one goal plan, increase the evaluation topic weight to 70%. |
The total weight of all Performance Goals sections must always equal the required contribution to the overall performance rating.
