Container Optimization - Packaged Input

This page is accessed via:

The Container Optimization query helps you determine the optimal equipment group for bulk and packaged shipments based upon weight and volume.

Packaged Shipments

If you selected Packaged while completing the container optimization home page, this page appears.

  1. Select a transport handling unit (THU) ID for the objects you want to pack.
  2. Enter the Number of THUs of the type specified above that you want to optimize for. For example, suppose you selected Euro Pallets, and you plan to fit 27 boxes on each pallet. If you want to optimize 270 boxes, you would enter 10 in this field to represent the ten pallets needed to ship 270 boxes.
  3. Select the Splittable check box if splits are allowed.
  4. Enter a unique ID for each line item you are optimizing. The ID can be a serial number, name, item number, or any other identifier that makes sense. This information shows which line items, and how much of each, are planned in each container.
  5. Enter the Weight per container.
  6. If you did not select a container type with predefined measurements, enter the Volume, Length, Width, and Height per container.

For THUs with an open end (for example, a crate without a lid), you can increase the volume to account for the volume outside the basic dimensions of the THU.
  7. Select a Load Configuration Profile ID to select the loading pattern. If left blank, all loading patterns are evaluated.
  8. Click the More button to enter additional rows in the table.
  9. Optionally, select an Equipment Group ID. This list shows all the groups in the equipment group profile selected. You can enter more than one equipment group. If you enter more than one, when optimization runs, it checks all equipment groups.
  10. If the Cost field displays, enter a cost for the equipment group. This field is not available if you selected the Ignore Equipment Cost check box on the previous page.
  11. If the Available field displays, enter the available equipment quantity. This field is not available if you selected the Ignore Equipment Capacity check box on the previous page. Capacity will also be checked across days depending on the time window. Multi-day resource planning only works for single leg itineraries.
  12. Click Optimize and you will see the Container Optimization solution.  A table appears that lists the percent utilization and remaining weight and volume capacity for the selected equipment.
