Using the Default Transportation Intelligence Dashboard

By default, an Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) user will not have access to Transportation Intelligence (TI). Only a properly set up OTM user can access the default dashboard. Refer to the online help topic How to Provide Access to Transportation Intelligence for a User for details.

When you click Transportation Intelligence > Dashboard, you see the default TI dashboard. The default dashboard for a newly configured OTM user is the Main Dashboard.

Your OTM/TI administrator can change the default dashboard. If your OTM/TI administrator has changed your default dashboard, you may see a different dashboard. Refer to the online help topic How to Define a Default Dashboard in Transportation Intelligence for details.

Here are some of the components of an Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) interactive dashboard:

  • Content on a dashboard page is organized into columns. Columns are used to align content on a dashboard.
  • Columns will typically contain the results or reports which are the output of requests returned from the Business Intelligence (BI) server.
  • A dashboard page appears as a tab across the top of the dashboard. You can use pages to organize the content of what you want to display on your My Dashboard.
  • A section is an object within a dashboard that holds the actual results or reports.

At the top of the Main Dashboard, there are seven tabs which are:

  • Statistics
  • Financial
  • Carrier
  • Utilization
  • Cost Benefits
  • Regional Cost Benefits
  • Green Dashboard
  • Fleet Dashboard
  • Maps

Several of the other pre-defined dashboards have the same tabs on them.

To view the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for each tab, click on the tab and wait for the data in the middle of the dashboard to refresh.

The Statistics tab is selected by default. On the left-hand side of the dashboard, you see fields or prompts where you can select Year or Month, as well as, region or location data.

In the middle of the dashboard, you see a section with Statistics KPIs. The Statistics tab includes shipment statistics such as Total Weight Target, Total Volume Target, Total Shipments Target, Total Distance Target, etc.

Common TI Dashboard Components

All of the TI pre-defined dashboards have several standard OAS components. A dashboard prompt is an OAS component. A dashboard prompt is a special dashboard filter object that affects all content on a particular dashboard page. The majority of the TI pre-defined dashboards have the two main prompts:

  • Year Month period prompt (labeled Time Period filters)
  • Region prompt (labeled Region filters)

Time Period Filters (Year Month period prompt)

Note that all of the pre-defined dashboards are month-based. This means that the year and the month are required when you use the prompt.

  1. The Year and Month automatically populate based on the current date. These entries then filter the TI data in the middle section of the dashboard automatically.
  2. To change the Month, click the drop-down list, wait for the list to populate, and select the month from the drop-down list. Then click anywhere in the filters section to activate the new filter and run the search.
  3. Select a Year if you want to view data from another year.

Region Filters

The region filters allow you to further filter the data based on location. The Source Region, Source Country, Source Province, Source Location, Destination Region, Destination Country, Destination Province, and Destination Location prompts appear in the left hand filter section of the page.

Note: Once you enter a source region, country, province, or location in the top portion of the prompt, the drop-down lists for the destination fields in the bottom portion of the prompt are automatically filtered. If you selected AMERICAS as the source region, then the destination region drop-down list will only contain the destination regions of shipments whose source region was in the AMERICAS. So for example, if you selected a Source Region of AMERICAS and then tried to select a Destination Region you might only be able to select destination regions of CENTRAL EUROPE and ASIA PACIFIC. This means that all of your shipments that start in the AMERICAS end in either CENTRAL EUROPE or ASIA PACIFIC.

A few more of the common TI dashboard components are:

  • Measurements which appear in the upper right hand corner of all pre-defined dashboards. This table shows the standard measurements used in the pre-defined dashboards.
  • Date and time of last ETL run which appear just below measurements on the right side of all of the pre-defined dashboards.

Understanding  Data on the Default Dashboard

The KPI section of the pre-configured dashboard contains actual data and target data. The dashboard also displays a status symbol for each KPI:

  • OK which is a green check mark
  • Warning which is yellow warning symbol
  • Critical which is a red icon

A quick glance shows areas which need attention.

Status symbols are an OAS component against which targets are set. The symbols show the state of the metric. Depending on the metric and how your targets are defined, green might be below target or above target. It all depends on the type of metric. For example, you want to minimize cost; so it will be green if the actual is below target. In certain instances, you might want to maximize weight (which means you sold more) or minimize weight (which means you spent less).

The default targets for these status symbols are pre-configured in TI.

You can click on the green check mark or red critical icon next to a KPI to view the corresponding graph. This graph compares the actual value to the target value. Refer to the legend just above the graph to see which line refers to the metric and which line refers to the target.

You could also have a yellow warning sign which indicates that the actual value is within 10 percent of the target. This is a warning to keep an eye on this metric because it is close to being a red critical sign. Each of the column headings is clickable. You can click a heading to sort data in that column in ascending or descending order.

No Data/Incomplete Data on the Dashboard

No Data

There are some times when you will see no results or blank fields on the pre-configured dashboards. Some things to keep in mind are:

  • Just because you can see order releases, shipments, or invoices in OTM does not mean that those specific items are loaded into the TI database and will show up in the TI dashboards.
  • A shipment, order release, or invoice will only be loaded via ETL to the TI HD database if a specific status on the object is set to HD LOAD STATUS when the TI database is refreshed.

For the majority of these status symbols, if you do not have data in the 3 weeks prior to the currently selected week, then you will see warning icon instead of a status symbol since TI could not calculate the moving average. The default targets for these status symbols are set pre-configured in TI and are calculated as an average of the last 3 weeks of data for the metric.

Incomplete Data

You can also see another instance where you have warnings for the current week, but there is data for both the current week and the previous weeks. In this case, the likely breaking point is that your KPI targets have changed and there are holes in that data.

Unable to Access TI

By default an OTM user does not have access to view TI. If you see an access denied page, you might not have access to TI. This access is provided to you via a Business Intelligence Role. If you click Transportation Intelligence > Dashboard or any of the other Transportation Intelligence menu options and you see the access prohibited screen, contact your OTM/TI administrator. They can provide your OTM user the appropriate access to TI that your role requires.

Note: On occasion, you may also see a message indicating you are not logged in to OAS. This message indicates that you are not logged into the Oracle Oracle Analytics Server. You can see this message if you have changed the Business Intelligence Role of a user, but the TI data has not been updated yet on the OAS server. Do not click the here link in the Not Logged In window. This will not actually allow you to log into Oracle Business Intelligence.
