Equipment Group Profile

This page is accessed via Shipment Management > Equipment Management > Equipment Group Profile.

An Equipment Group Profile is used to categorize Equipment groups by some common attribute or grouping scheme. For example, you can create a Group Profile called Dry Vans that include the 28 FT Dry Van and 24 FT Dry Van (and others if you like) Equipment Groups.

An Equipment Group Profile consists of an ID and a Profile Name and a collection of specific Equipment Groups that you associate with the profile. Oracle Transportation Management can use the Profile in planning to limit the Equipment Groups that can be used for shipment planning. When Oracle Transportation Management bundles orders and builds shipments, it checks that there is an intersection between the equipment group values identified on the order bases.

Example: Equipment Group Rule

Order Bundle

Equipment Group

Order Bundle 1

28 FT Truck

Order Bundle 2

28 FT Truck or 53 FT Truck

Order Bundle 3

53 FT Truck

Result

  • Order Bundle 1 and 2 are compatible
  • Order Bundle 2 and 3 are compatible
  • Order Bundle 1 and 3 are not compatible

Creating an Equipment Group Profile

  1. Enter the Equipment Group Profile ID to create an alphanumeric ID for the profile that can be used in other areas of Oracle Transportation Management.
  2. Enter the Equipment Group Profile Name to describe the profile. This is often the same as the Profile ID.
  3. Select the Compatible check box to include the equipment groups in the profile when computing results. If the check box is unmarked, the rate offerings that specify equipment groups are excluded from computations and, therefore, do not appear in the results.

For example, you may create an Equipment Group called Refrig for shipping ice cream and other dairy products. The group may include several sizes of refrigerated vans and trucks. Because you want to include the equipment groups in any results that pertain to ice cream and milk, the Compatible check box is marked. A second Profile can be created for the same corporations called No_refrig to exclude those equipment groups from any results pertaining to juice. In this instance, the Compatible check box is unmarked. If you then specify the Profile in other areas of Oracle Transportation Management (such as Rate Manager or Location Manager), it will be used to include or exclude those equipment groups in the profile when rates are computed.

Note: The Compatible check box is not considered by Sourcing.

  1. Find or create an Equipment Group ID to associate with the Equipment Group Profile. You can assign as many Equipment Groups to a profile as you need. For example, you can select 28-Foot Dry Vans, 40-Foot Dry Vans and 42-Foot Dry Vans from your equipment groups and add them to a profile called "Dry Vans".
