Shipment Management

Relay Shipment Breakdown

This page is accessed via Shipment Manager > Shipment Manager > Buy Shipments. Select Actions > Fleet Management > Manage Relays > Relay Shipment Breakdown. In the simplest case, a relay move involves two trucks swapping trailers at an intermediate point; the relay location.

Use this action to record that a breakdown of either the equipment, driver or power unit occurred. This action creates a new shipment with a replacement for either the driver, equipment or power unit or a combination. For example, another driver/tractor pair may be required to take over. The relay shipment must occur after the first stop and before the last stop.

The power unit ID is cleared for new shipments in breakdown action (driver or power unit breakdown). The new shipment shares the original equipment in breakdown action (driver or power unit breakdown).

If you need to undo this in the future, you can use the Append Shipment action.

Note: This action does not work static trip, dynamic trip, flight, voyage, ground service, or depot shipments.

Note: This action does not work on equipment repositioning shipments.

Note: This action will function for CLOSED-DETACHABLE shipments, but not for STATIC or DYNAMIC shipments.

Entering a Breakdown:

  1. Enter a Breakdown Location to record where the breakdown occurred. This can be an existing location or a location can be created on the fly. You may need to create a location on the fly if the breakdown occurs on the road between stops.
  2. Select the Shipment Stop before or after the breakdown.
  3. If the breakdown occurs before the listed stop, select the Insert Breakdown location before existing stop check box.
  4. Select one of the following check boxes to indicate what broke down.
    1. Equipment Breakdown: to indicate the trailer broke down
    2. Driver Breakdown: to indicate that the driver is sick or has some other problem
    3. Power Unit Breakdown: to indicate the cab/tractor broke down
  5. Enter the Breakdown Time to show when the breakdown occurred.
  6. Enter the Start Time as to when the new shipment will start.
  7. Click OK.
