Relay Shipment In Transit

This page is accessed via Shipment Manager > Shipment Manager > Buy Shipments. Select Actions > Fleet Management > Manage Relays > Relay Shipment In transit.

When you run the relay shipment in transit you are segmenting a shipment into two shipments. The first shipment ends at the relay point that you insert. That relay location then becomes the starting location for the second shipment, representing the remaining portions of the original shipment.

Use this action to relay a shipment to another location to be completed later. For example, you may not have the capacity now, but want to move the load to a secure location until capacity is available.

This action only works when you choose a location after the last pickup and before the first drop off. It does not allow for service time or rating infeasibilities. If the service times or ratings were infeasible, the action would fail.

The shipment created by this action (the second shipment) will share the same shipment equipment as the original shipment (the first shipment).

The power unit and driver are cleared for new shipments in in-transit actions (if no driver is specified). If a driver is specified, that driver is used on the second (relay) shipment. You cannot specify the same driver for the second shipment as was on the original shipment.

This action can be used with any service provider, not just fleet providers.

If you need to undo this in the future, you can use the Append Shipment action.

Note: This action does not work static trip, dynamic trip, flight, voyage, ground service, or depot shipments.

Note: This action does not work on equipment repositioning shipments.

Note: This action will function for CLOSED-DETACHABLE shipments, but not for STATIC or DYNAMIC shipments.

Entering an In transit Relay Shipment:

  1. Enter the Relay Location ID to record where the relay will occur.
  2. Select the Shipment Stop before or after the relay location.
  3. When the relay point is not an existing shipment stop location select the Insert Relay location before existing stop check box to insert the relay point before the stop location. If it is at one of the locations, this check box is ignored.
  4. Enter the Relay Driver ID.
  5. Click OK.
