Container Optimization - Bulk Input

This page is accessed via:

  • Ask Oracle > Container Optimization
  • Operational Planning > Ask Oracle > Container Optimization

The Container Optimization query helps you determine the optimal equipment group for bulk and packaged shipments based upon weight and volume.

Bulk Shipments

After completing the container optimization home page, this page appears if you selected Bulk.

  1. If you want, change the parameter set. It defaults from the previous page.
  2. Enter a unique ID for each line item you are optimizing. The ID can be a serial number, name, item number, or any other identifier that makes sense to you. Oracle Transportation Management needs this information to show which line items, and how much of each, are planned in each container.
  3. Enter the Weight and the Volume of each line item.
  4. Click the More button to enter additional rows in the table.
  5. Optionally, select an Equipment Group ID. This list shows all the groups in the equipment group profile selected. You can enter more than one equipment group. If you enter more than one, when optimization runs, it checks all equipment groups.
  6. If the Cost field displays, enter a cost for the equipment group. This field is not available if you selected the Ignore Equipment Cost check box on the previous page.
  7. If the Available field displays, enter the available equipment quantity. This field is not available if you selected the Ignore Equipment Capacity check box on the previous page. Capacity will also be checked across days depending on the time window. Multi-day resource planning only works for single leg itineraries.
  8. Click Optimize and you will see the Container Optimization solution. A table appears that lists the percent utilization and remaining weight and volume capacity for the selected equipment.
