View Explain Plan
For any fields where you can manually enter SQL, you can have the database plan your SQL by clicking the Explain Plan button.
This page is accessed via:
- Business Process Automation > Power Data > Event Management > Saved Queries > Saved Query Definition. Click the Explain Plan button.
- Business Process Automation > Power Data > Integration > Integration Saved Queries > Saved Query Definition. Click the Explain Plan button.
- Configuration and Administration > Technical Support > Diagnostics and Tools > Database > SQL Performance. Choose Actions > View Explain Plan.
- Master Data > Power Data > Configurations > Saved Queries > Saved Query Definition. Click the Explain Plan button.
This displays an explain plan report based on the performance source. Each plan includes suggestions for optimizing SQL with missing joins or indices. The a priori plan is based on a theoretical execution; the cursor and AWR plans are based on historical data. Note that all these reports may include multiple plans over the tracking period, reflecting various VPD users or alternate explain plans.
When working with a priori plans, you can select a different user to see if the results vary from user to user. That way you can see if the security setup for a user (VPD) may impact the execution plan in a significant way.
