8 Exporting and Importing Applications

Learn how administrators move reporting applications.

8.1 Understanding the Export and Import Process

Administrators can move reporting applications by creating an export script file and then importing it into another APEX instance or workspace.

The export process consists of following steps:

  1. Create an Export File.

    Exporting a reporting applications creates an export file. An export file is a readable script file with a .SQL extension. You can create an export file from either the Data Reporter home page or the Reporting Application home page.

  2. Import the Export File.

    Import the export file into the target workspace.

8.2 Exporting Reporting Applications

An administrator moves a reporting application by creating an export file.

An administrator exports a reporting application using the Export Wizard which accessible from either the Data Reporter home page or the Reporting Application home page.

To export a reporting application:

  1. Sign in to the workspace and navigate to Data Reporter.
  2. Navigate to the Export Wizard:
    • From the Data Reporter Home page - Select Export / Import.

    • From a reporting application:

      • On the Data Reporter Home page, select the reporting application.
      • On the Reporting Application Home page, select Export / Import.
  3. In the Export / Import dialog, select Export.

    The Export dialog appears with Reporting Application selected.

  4. On Export:
    1. Include User Access Controls - When enabled, user access control assignments (such as Editor or Viewer) are included in the Reporting Application export.
    2. Include Private Reports - When enabled, private reports are included in the Reporting Application export. Private Reports are the private customized settings saved by users in interactive reports.
    3. Include Report Subscriptions - When enabled, interactive report subscription settings are be included in the Reporting Application export. This will be limited to the unexpired subscription settings of all users for all interactive reports in the application.
    4. Select Application - Select the published application to export.
  5. Select Export.
  6. Import the export file into the target workspace. See Importing Reporting Applications.

8.3 Importing Reporting Applications

An administrator imports the reporting application export file on the Import page.

After you create a reporting application export file, you then import it into the target workspace. Data Reporter administrators can import export files from the Data Reporter home page or from a specific reporting application.

To import a reporting application:

  1. Sign in to the target workspace and navigate to Data Reporter.
  2. Access the Import Wizard:

    Note:

    If the Welcome page appears, select Import in the Create a Reporting Application region.
    • From theData Reporter Home page:

      • On the Data Reporter Home page, select Export / Import.
      • On Export / Import, select Import.
    • From a reporting application:

      • On the Data Reporter Home page, select a reporting application.
      • On the Reporting Application Home page, select Export / Import.
  3. On Import:
    1. Drag and drop, or navigate to the file.
    2. File Type - Select the type of export file to be imported. Select Reporting Application.
    3. File Character Set - Verify that the File Character Set is correct.
    4. Click Next to import the file.
  4. On Install Application, click Install Application.
