Central Bank Retirer

The central bank retirer receives value returned by the issuer and submits requests to remove that value from circulation.

The central bank retirer can send burn requests and return available value to eligible issuers. They cannot approve their own retirement request, create accounts, assign roles, change limits, or change setup.

Before you can complete central bank retirer tasks, you must have an eligible active CBDC account linked to your wallet, with an available balance. You must be a member of the Central Bank Retirer application group with the burner ledger role. There must also be value (tokens) returned by a central bank issuer, an eligible manager approver, and an active central bank issuer account.

Typically the central bank retirer completes tasks in the following order.

  1. Confirm the retirer account is active and review the total retired and balance amounts.
  2. If value has not arrived, ask the central bank issuer to use Transfer to send value to this account.
  3. Select Retire Tokens, choose the manager approver, enter the quantity, and optionally add a memo.
  4. Submit the burn request and record the request ID.
  5. Wait for the central bank manager to approve or reject the request.
  6. Refresh history and confirm the retirement status, balance, and total retired value.

The following tasks are typical ones that a central bank retirer completes.

Retire Tokens

  1. Select Retire Tokens. The Request Burn Tokens window is displayed.
  2. Enter a Quantity and an optional Memo. If multiple eligible managers are available, select an Approver User ID.
  3. Select Request Burn. The request is sent for manager approval.

Return Value to Issuer

  1. Select Transfer for an eligible central bank issuer.
  2. Select the To User ID, enter a Quantity. Optionally, select Purpose and then select one of the configured purposes.
  3. Select Transfer. The transaction runs.

Troubleshooting

If no returned value is available, ask the central bank issuer to transfer it. If no approver is available, ask the central bank administrator to verify active manager accounts and escrow roles. If a quantity is rejected, check the balance, limits, and decimal precision. If the account is inactive, ask the central bank administrator to review the account.
