Analyze Data with Smart View

Use Oracle Smart View for Office to explore and analyze Essbase cube data in Microsoft Excel.

Smart View brings the dimensions and hierarchies of your Essbase model into a familiar spreadsheet environment. Instead of writing a new query each time you want a different view, you can interactively rearrange the dimensions and members in the worksheet.

For example, you can:

• Retrieve Essbase cube data into a worksheet.

• Pivot dimensions between rows and columns.

• Drill from summary members to greater detail.

• Change the point of view to analyze a different product, market, time period, or scenario.

• Compare data values across dimensional perspectives.

• Refresh the worksheet with current Essbase results.

• Share analytical workbook layouts with other authorized Essbase users.

Suppose a worksheet initially shows quarterly sales by Market. You can pivot Product into the rows, drill from Total Market into individual regions, and change the Scenario selection from Actual to Budget without redesigning the underlying Essbase cube.

Smart View uses the dimensional model you created in Essbase, providing interactive analysis of your business data in Excel worksheets. Dimensions, hierarchies, formulas, and access controls remain governed by the cube.
