Work with calculations in Hybrid BSO cubes
Essbase block storage (BSO) cubes support hierarchical aggregation and member formulas, and also provide calculation scripts for repeatable application of required business logic.
Note:
The BSO cube category includes hybrid BSO and "classic" BSO. However, because only ASO and hybrid BSO are relevant for Essbase on Autonomous AI Lakehouse, all references to BSO in this documentation should be considered to mean hybrid BSO.BSO member formulas use the Essbase calculation language, and can define derived measures such as:
Margin = Sales - CostUse calculation scripts when business logic needs to operate across selected areas of the cube, or when several calculations must run as a repeatable process.
A calculation script can be used to:
- Calculate selected dimensions or members
- Apply formulas across a defined area of the cube
- Perform calculations in a required sequence
- Apply assumptions or business rules
- Allocate values
- Calculate forecasts and other modeled results
For example, a budgeting process might apply assumptions, calculate forecast values, allocate shared expenses, and then derive profitability measures.
Some BSO members can also be calculated dynamically when users retrieve them, while other results can be calculated through scripts. This gives you flexibility in deciding when business logic should be evaluated.
For detailed information about BSO calculation, review the documentation:
