Work with calculations in ASO cubes

Essbase aggregate storage (ASO) cubes are designed for aggregation-intensive analysis.

Essbase can roll detailed values up through dimension hierarchies, so users can analyze summarized results at higher levels of the business model.

For example:

Jan + Feb + Mar → Q1

California + Oregon + Washington → West

Individual Products → Product Family → Total Products

Use member formulas when a result must be derived rather than simply aggregated. ASO member formulas are built using MDX expressions.

For example:

Margin = Sales - Cost

or:

Margin % = Margin / Sales

When member with formulas depend on one another, use solve order to control the sequence in which formulas are evaluated.

ASO also supports custom calculations and allocations for distributing or deriving values across selected areas of the cube. For example, you can allocate a shared expense across departments or distribute a budget across products according to a business driver.
