Run and validate calculations
For Essbase applications that require explicit calculations, run the applicable calculation process and verify the results.
Check both the calculated values and the areas of the cube affected by the calculation.
For example, in Sample Basic, formulas on the Measures dimension define member relationships such as:
Margin = Sales - COGSand:
Profit = Margin - Total ExpensesAfter running the applicable calculation, retrieve Sales, COGS, Margin, Total Expenses, and Profit for the same Product, Market, Time, and Scenario intersection. Confirm that the calculated members agree with the values from which they are derived.
For example, for a selected product and market, you could verify:
Margin = Sales - COGSthen:
Profit = Margin - Total ExpensesYou can also test the scope of the calculation. If you intended to calculate only a particular market, product family, or time period, retrieve values both inside and outside that area. Confirm that the intended area changed and that unrelated areas were not affected.
If a calculation produces an unexpected result, determine where the discrepancy begins:
-
Check the input values first.
-
Confirm that members are organized correctly in the outline.
See: Member Calculation Order (for BSO) or Calculation Order and Solve Order in ASO Cubes
-
Review consolidation properties and member formulas.
See: Member Consolidation Properties, Develop Formulas for Block Storage Cubes, Develop Formulas on Aggregate Storage Outlines
-
Review the calculation logic and the area of the cube that it processes.
-
Check the calculation job status and messages for errors or warnings.
