8.2.4 Rules for Updating to a Newer Oracle Exadata System Software Version
When updating Oracle Exadata System Software, you need to consider the complete product version and date code of the installed and target releases.
Updating to a specific target version must adhere to the following rules, which are enforced by patchmgr:
- The product version of the target release is higher than the installed software, and
- The date code of the target release is higher than the installed software.
For example, consider a system with Oracle Exadata System Software version 25.2.10.0.0.260528, which consists of product version 25.2.10.0.0 and date code 260528.
- Updating to
26.1.0.0.0.260531is allowed because both rules are satisfied. - Updating to
25.2.10.0.0.260515is not allowed because the date code of the target release (260515) is not higher than the installed software (260528).
